FRANCIS FAUX

Francis Faux began his musical training at the age of seven as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral Choir School, where he was coached by James O’Donnell. He sang on several Gramophone Award-winning recordings, toured extensively throughout Europe, and was interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s Midweek Choice. While at Eton College, he recorded with The King’s Consort and was chosen as one of two soloists for the televised concert celebrating Yehudi Menuhin’s 80th birthday at the Royal Albert Hall.
After graduating with a first-class degree in Music, Francis served for nearly a decade as Artistic Director of the principal chorus and chamber choir at Bath Spa University. During this time, he inspired a generation of young singers and musicians and continues to work there as an associate lecturer and vocal coach.
His choirs, Lucis and Noctis, have earned recognition for choral excellence in the UK and abroad. Highlights include a Cadogan Hall performance of music by Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a DCINY massed-choirs performance of Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man at Carnegie Hall, and a First World War centenary concert with the Southern Sinfonia featuring guest speaker Sir Terry Waite.
An award-winning composer for film, video games, and the concert hall, Francis has collaborated with filmmaker Jevan Chowdhury on several shorts for his ambitious 12 Films in 12 Months project. His song We Are Every Child - commissioned for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with Jamila Gavin MBE - was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios and has been performed internationally, most recently by the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain, and Partnerschools in Houston, Texas.
Recent commissions have included Living in the 21st Century for the Exeter Cathedral Chorister Outreach Programme, There is No Rose for Prior Park College (Banks Music), and an arrangement of O Tannenbaum, premiered at Bath Abbey by mezzo-soprano Molly Soo and the Bristol Ensemble. His suite for solo clarinet, Tales of the Mabinogion (Clifton Edition), draws on the legends of Welsh mythology and was written for Emma Davies.
Francis is also an experienced piano teacher, repetiteur, and Estill-trained vocal coach, and serves on the examiner panel for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
